Prerequisite:

-          Students should be able to define the term office.

-          Students should be able to identify an office.


Objectives:

Cognitive

Students should be able to:

-          Define the different types of ‘Office Layouts’.

Affective

-          Describe the different ‘Office Layout’

-          Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each ‘Office Layouts’

Psychomotor

-          Design an ‘Office Layout’
Materials: markers, chalkboard, white screen, projector, blank sheets, notebooks, textbooks.


Teaching strategies:  Co-operative Learning and Discussion

Introduction

Students will create groups of four (4) and be given five minutes to browse through their textbooks to retrieve a definition of the different types of office layouts.


Developmental Process


Step 1.   Each group will present their definition to the rest of the class where there will be a small class discussion to determine a definition.

Step 2.  Students will then view a short video, and be asked to identify the differences and similarities between the office layouts, based on the video which they have seen.

Step 3.   Students will identify the advantages and disadvantages of each office layout based on the video.

Step 4.   A concept map is used to summarize the class discussion on all the information on the different office layouts and will be written on the chalkboard.

Step 5.   Students will be given five minutes to write down the information.

Step 6.  Students will be give blank sheet and drawing instruments to design an ‘Office Layout’ of their choice and display them to the rest of the class.
Content Analysis

Open plan offices: a large open space with no dividing walls designed to accommodate a large number of office workers.

Cellular/ Closed offices: a large floor space that is divided into a number of individual offices or by permanent walls.

Conclusion

Students will be randomly selected to say what they have learnt in the lesson.

Evaluation

In ten minutes, students will write a short letter to friend. In the letter they will tell the friend about their plans of opening a business and which office layout they will use in one of their departments. Students will justify why they chose this office layout.
